At Alghero-Fertilia airport you can rent an ISLARENT car without a credit card and without a security deposit: a valid driving licence and an ID document for the main driver are all we need. Fully comprehensive insurance with zero excess, unlimited mileage, child seats and a second driver are included in the price, and you pay at pick-up — not online, not in advance.
How pick-up works at Alghero airport
Alghero-Fertilia is a small, easy airport: it is a short walk from the gate to baggage reclaim and there is only one exit. We wait for you there with the car ready and the paperwork prepared: we check your licence and ID, you sign and take the keys. There is no counter where the price gets renegotiated and no insurance to buy at the last minute.
When you book, give us your flight number. It is the field most often left empty and the one that really matters: if you land late we can see it and we wait for you, with no charge for the delay. In summer, flights into Alghero arrive in a few concentrated waves, and knowing who we are waiting for is the difference between ten minutes and an hour.
For the return, plan to be at the airport a couple of hours before departure in July and August. Fill the tank before you get back: the nearest petrol stations are on the Fertilia road and on the Alghero ring road, a few minutes from the terminal.
Why we do not ask for a credit card
For a car rental company a credit card serves one purpose: blocking a deposit as security against damage. The hold is usually between €1,500 and €2,500, stays on the card for weeks and forces the driver to hold a real credit card in their own name — not a prepaid card, not a debit card. It is why thousands of people reach the desk only to be turned away.
We do not ask for a deposit because we do not need one: fully comprehensive cover is included in every rental and the excess is zero. If the car picks up a scratch in an Alghero car park there is no penalty to withhold, so there is nothing to block. At pick-up we need a valid licence and an ID document for the main driver, and you pay on the spot.
What you can reach from Alghero by car
Alghero airport is the gateway to north-western Sardinia, the part of the island that stays almost out of reach without a car. Alghero’s old town, with its Catalan walls, is about ten kilometres away. Neptune’s Grotto and Capo Caccia are half an hour out, La Pelosa beach and Stintino a little over an hour.
Heading south begins one of the finest coastal roads in Italy, the Alghero–Bosa corniche: fifty kilometres of curves above the sea, with no comfortable bus service along them. Inland lie Sassari, the Santu Antine nuraghe and the Saccargia basilica. With unlimited mileage you can do the whole loop without watching the odometer.
